How to Brush My Pet’s Hair

Brushing your pet’s hair is among the care items that deserve attention, a task that can seem titanic especially if the hair is long, but it still needs to be done. Don’t get me wrong, pets with short hair need brushing as well.

If you want the hair to remain, this is something that I can not emphasize this enough. By doing this will bring great benefits for the animal and you. Because dogs are not the only one’s who suffer, cats have this as an issue as well.

By you helping to keep your dog or cat’s coat cleaner, your house will have less hair. You will also help in maintaining your dog’s hair in-between having your dog or cat groomed. Trust me on this, your pet’s groomer will appreciate this as well.

Here is a tip: If you go into a grooming salon and tell them you brush your dog or cat every day, they know if you’re telling the truth.

Are you willing to do it but you do not know where to start?

Steps to follow:

  1. The first thing to put yourself in the mindset is you need to get into the habit of brushing your dog. Besides reducing the amount of hair in your home, in turn, makes it much easier to clean, leaving your home in better condition.
  2. The ideal is to have your dog from to puppy to become accustomed to brushing, this way as it grows the dog will be much calmer and docile during the hairstyle. Brushing is like a kind of massage for your pet, so after some first experiences in which you will feel restless, then you will begin to enjoy it. It is important that you persevere and insist on this task until the dog or cat becomes accustomed. If your dog or cat is small, you can sit your pet on your lap and hold gently but firmly so that it does not go away. In the case of large dogs, the ideal is that you sit on a chair or stool at a height that allows you to comb the top part of the animal, then sit on the ground and finish the rest.
  3. Frequent brushing not only reduces hair loss, but it also allows you to love your dog, untangle knots and check your pet’s skin to make sure it is healthy and flea-free. If this was not enough, this habit significantly reduces the bad odor in your pet’s fur, allowing the wash to last longer.
  4. If your pet is short-haired with a brushing once or twice a week is enough, while long-haired dogs should be brushed every two days. During the spring and autumn season the change of hair usually occurs in dogs, so you should intensify the brushing at these times to reduce the presence of hairs at home.
  5. Use a natural or wire bristle brush bought at a special pet store; you will find them for long and short hair, choose the one that is convenient according to the case. You will also find brushes in the form of gloves that come very well with short hair breeds.
  6. To brush your pet’s hair always follow the direction of hair growth, starting with the head, back, sides, legs and finally combing its tail. Remember to brush it gently. Be gentle when undoing knots and do the job quickly, so your dog does not suffer.

In the end, you can reward the success with a cookie or any other reward for behaving well.
