What You Should know Prior to Adopting a Dog Part IV

Are you and your family capable of providing the necessary uniformity in raising a dog?

Dogs do not speak the human language, even if it is obvious, always keep it in mind. They start to learn from what we do, not necessarily by what we say. So if you sometimes address your dog with commands such as: “Sit” when you want to say “you must sit”, and other times using the same word you want to tell your dog: “Go” or similar things, do not be surprised if the dog never learns what the “Sit” command means to you. That is why it is important to handle strict discipline in the words we use to train our dog .

You can use the combination of words that you like to order action on your dog too, for example; if you want you can put commands such as: “you must” or if you prefer “you can” and later “Sit.” This will depend on the intention you have with your dog if it is to order him to sit down or ask him to do so if he wants to.The important thing is that you must say the words, in the same way, each time.

Try to remember to keep it simple, for example; telling a dog to “Sit Down” will confuse the two commands. There is also no need to be overly wordy with commands, like “Go over there and lie down.” Do not be surprised if your dog tilts his head as if to say, “Huh”?

Dogs love the routine, doing the same things daily and at the same time. They will grow to anticipate what happens next. If you change this, such as running late for whatever reason, especially during initial training, the dog may feel anxious and therefore become destructive. Not all dogs do this, and many are leaving these customs as they grow and gain confidence, this is normal. The best thing to do is to learn to avoid this type of incident before you get a dog. However, the most natural thing is to wait for it to happen anyway, at least once. If this is something you can not tolerate, then do not have a dog.

Do you feel comfortable asking for help?

If at some point you have come to investigate something simple that you need to know urgently but in which you have no idea, you will know what I mean. But despite the prejudices, there are times when you have to consult about simple but necessary concerns, even if you are a shy person, or this makes you feel like a fool, just do not worry.

The information out there can be overwhelming when you try to do your own research, but don’t panic. Just like we’re brought up learning in school, the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask. If you ask, and if you hear a correct answer, you will know what to do and in what form to do it. Remember that the life of your dog depends on your knowledge and the decisions you make.
